Area crashes

State police reported on several area crashes:

• A 2019 Ford Explorer was towed from the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike after the vehicle ran over debris in the road, according to state police at the Pocono barracks.

They said it happened at mile marker 8.9 in Kidder Township at 7:50 a.m. July 3.

Police said Devonte T. Napoleon, 25, of Whitehall, was driving the vehicle southbound when it ran over debris, causing damage to the front and rear tires and the gas tank.

Napoleon was uninjured, police said.

• A 32-year-old Saylorsburg woman was injured when she swerved to avoid a deer.

State police at Lehighton said Gabriella Toscano was traveling west on Meixsell Valley Road at 5:39 p.m. July 6 when she swerved to avoid a deer. She lost control of the 2015 Chevy Equinox and entered a ditch on the side of the road.

Police said she continued to travel and came to rest on the front lawn of a residence.

She was transported by Lehigh Valley Ambulance. Her vehicle was towed and she was cited for the incident.

• A pedestrian was injured when he was hit by an SUV in Penn Forest Township.

Police said Lauren O. Lekites, 18, of Jim Thorpe was driving a GMC Yukon at 10:23 a.m. July 17 on Indian Trail.

She told police she was traveling East when she looked down and when she looked up, she struck William J. Malone, 73, of Jim Thorpe. He was in the roadway raking leaves.

Malone was taken to St. Luke’s Carbon Campus for evaluation. Lekites was not injured. Police said she was cited for careless driving.

• No one was injured when a pickup struck debris on Route 33 in Hamilton Township and had to be towed from the scene after sustaining disabling damages.

State police at the Stroudsburg barracks said Michael A. Safren, 33, of East Brunswick, New Jersey, was driving the 2008 Dodge Ram and was rounding a left curve in the roadway when it struck the debris and later came to rest on the right shoulder of the road.

• Sheila M. Febus-Salgado, 38, of Sciota, was injured in a two-vehicle crash at 8:58 p.m. July 13 on Interstate 80 in Pocono Township.

State police at the Stroudsburg said she had a minor injury to the left arm and was transported to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Stroudsburg by personnel from the St. Luke’s Emergency and Transport Services.

Police said she was driving a 2019 Kia Sportage westbound when it struck the rear of a 2019 Hyundai Sonata driven by Christoph J. Fritz, 20, of River Edge, New Jersey, who had stopped in the left travel lane due to traffic.

Police said both vehicles sustained disabling damages and were towed from the scene.

Febus-Salgado was cited for following too closely, police said.

Fritz and a passenger in the Febus-Salgado vehicle, Jason I. Albino-Febus, 19, also of Sciota, were evaluated by EMS personnel at the scene but were not transported to a medical facility.
