Food, fun draws crowds to Slatington’s Victory Park

It was a day of food and fun Saturday at the Northern Lehigh Day in the Park - formerly the Food Truck Festival.

Food trucks were a big part event at Victory Park with a variety of food and drinks, such as pulled pork and beef sandwiches, Greek specialties, tacos, deep-fried cheese curds, shaved ice, ice cream sundaes, soda floats, and more.

Displays were presented by the Northern Lehigh Pool, the Northern Lehigh Halloween Parade Committee, The Slatington Police Department, and there was a variety of craft vendors.

“It’s a great day to come down, enjoy the food, enjoy the music, enjoy the park, and enjoy each other,” said Lindsay Taylor, executive director of the Northern Lehigh Recreation Authority. “We have seven food truck vendors, ax throwing, pony rides, games for the kids, and music by Burn Classic Rock.”

The weather was ideal, enticing families to come out for the event.

“We enjoy the food trucks, the music, and the kids love the playground,” said Brittany Kistler, from Whitehall, who was there with Nick Kellner and two children, Lydia and Nicholas Kellner.

“It’s all about the community,” said Jeff Kistler, son of the late Arthur “Ted” Kistler, who served as the Slatington police chief for 32 years. “It’s good. It’s finally picking up. My dad always said, ‘Community is only as good as what you put into it.’?”
