Yankee Brass Band to play in Palmerton

The Palmerton Area Historical Society and the Concourse Club of Palmerton hae joined together to present the Yankee Brass Band to the Palmerton Borough Park as part of the town’s 125th anniversary celebration at 7 p.m. Friday.

In the event of inclement weather, the concert will be inside at Bethany Wesleyan Church, Palmerton Campus, 457 Delaware Avenue, at 7 p.m.

The Yankee Brass Band is a historically accurate recreation of an 1840-1870 American Brass Band.

The band plays period music on original instruments of the time while dressed in reproduction uniforms.

“The leader of the Yankee Brass Band saw a picture of our beautiful Bandstand, contacted the borough who forwarded the contact information onto the Concourse Club,” Historical Society President Jane Borbe said. “When we were approached by the Bandstand Committee, we jumped at the chance to co-sponsor this event. We really thought this would be a nice addition to our 125th anniversary celebration.”

The Historical Society is commemorating Palmerton’s 125th anniversary with a series of events, including Carbon County’s first appearance of the Allentown Symphony Orchestra. The Orchestra will play a pops concert at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27 at the Palmerton Area High School Auditorium.

For information on ticket sales and other anniversary events, visit the Historical Society Facebook page or stop into the Heritage Center, 410 Delaware Avenue, during their Thursday or Saturday 10 a.m.-1 p.m. hours.
