State adds 15.7 acres of game lands in Walker

The State Game Lands in Walker Township has gotten a bit bigger through a recent property acquisition by the Pennsylvania Game Commission.

The commission announced that it bought 15.7 acres of land, which it will add to State Game Lands 257.

The parcel adjoins the existing game lands and is near the Little Schuylkill River, according to maps provided by the commission.

State Game Lands 257 is about 3,500 acres of mountainous and wooded terrain. The commission noted that common wildlife species found on the land are deer, grouse and rabbit.

Land purchases are funded through portions of sportsmen’s license fees and taxes on sporting arms and ammunition.
