Kyle Frable, a devoted firefighter of 30 years with the Kunkletown Fire Company, left his church’s candlelight Christmas Eve service to respond to a fire call. That night his life, as well as his family’s, changed forever.

Frable was critically injured while fighting the fire when a hose bucked, knocking him down, resulting in numerous pelvic fractures.

It has been a long six months for Kyle and his family.

While recovering from the injuries fighting the fire on Christmas Eve. Frable suffered a saddle pulmonary embolism, an uncommon occurrence when a large clot gets stuck in the pulmonary artery, during the winter.

He was unconscious for awhile and slowly regained brain functions and motor skills. After leaving the hospital, he was moved to a long-term rehabilitation facility.

His sister Kacie Sheridan posted good news that her brother was recently discharged from acute rehab and has been moved to a new rehab facility that provides a community-integrated program that promotes gaining independence in all aspects of daily living.

“This is his first time out of a hospital in six months so there are many skills he needs to become accustomed to again such as cooking, laundry, and regular house chores that will help when he comes home,” Sheridan said. She was happy to say he has mastered making his own oatmeal for breakfast so far.

He moved into a rehabilitation home last week and has been making friends, playing card games, and may even go out to a concert this weekend, according to his sister.

“He has a lot more freedom as the program is designed to increase independence and we were even able to go out to a diner on Wednesday. We are so excited to see him get out and about again and thrilled he is really starting to regain some sort of normalcy in life once again,” Sheridan said.
