A 63-year-old Kunkletown woman had $5,000 stolen from her in a theft by deception incident that is being investigated by state police at the Lehighton barracks.

Police said they were called at 4:53 p.m. June 27 to a property on Interchange Road, Towamensing Township.

The woman said she was “scammed” out of the money after sending Apple/Google gift cards to someone she met through Facebook Messenger.
