Rockin’ Rescue event raises money for animals
A three-day nonprofit event to raise funds for animals kicked off Friday.
The 13th annual Rockin’ Rescue event will be on private property owned by Matt Boyer along Route 443 by Tractor Supply.
It began at 4 p.m. Friday with a DJ and music, along with entertainment from Jeff Krick (Elvis Tribute) and an ’80s Night Trivia.
Donna Crum, president of the Blue Mountain Animal Rescue Society & Carbon County Animal Cruelty Fund, said the theme of this year’s event is “Honoring Those That We Saved, But Remembering Them All ... Always.”
Crum, who is also the founder of the Rockin’ Rescue, said this year’s event will have extended hours and feature food vendors, kids games, bingo, corn hole tournament, and Apollo the Alligator.
She said the event will once again raise funds for the medical care and needs of the rescues, the shelters, and any animal victim of neglect, abuse or cruelty.
Crum said the event had most recently been held in the Weissport Borough Park, but needed a change of venue.
Today will feature a rabies clinic from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., a corn hole tournament from 2-5 p.m., with registration available up to an hour before; a car show from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. hosted by the Palmerton Pacemakers, DJ Tony and His Sidekick from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and live bands from 1-9 p.m., including the Bee’s Knees, Pocono Posse Southern Rock Band, and Bugsy’s Evolution.
There will also be Recognition for their Dog Hero Awards around noon.
Sunday will have entertainment by the Pennsylvania Villagers from 1-4 p.m., a penny party and there will be summer bakery auction, followed by a DJ to close.
Crum added they will be accepting donations for the animal food pantry.
“The number one thing is education and resources for the community,” Crum said. “(We want people to) come out and enjoy themselves and support the animals; that’s what it’s all about.”
