Editor,
We continue to be challenged in a lack of respect and ability to listen to others of differing viewpoints.
Christians, and in many cases Catholics in particular, are aggressively attacked, insulted and ridiculed.
We are called to proclaim the one Truth as revealed by Jesus Christ, whom we believe to be Son of the Living God. This is timeless Truth, inerrant Truth, not a Truth that is changed or adapted to personal, political or social trends. It is not determined by poll numbers.
“The Church must preach God’s Truth in season and out of season.” Pope John Paul II. “The time will come when people will not tolerate sound doctrine” 2 Timothy 4. Archbishop Sheen has succinctly stated: “What’s right is right, even if no one is right. What’s wrong is wrong even if everyone is wrong.” We must persevere, trust and live what we proclaim.
We must however, always proclaim the Truth in love. “For if we proclaim the Truth in anger all our good is destroyed.” St John Chrysystom. “Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that.” Dr. Martin Luther King.
So let’s initiate a true dialogue in our families and communities - respectful listening and discussion in true love to reach and live a common good.
God bless you and give you His peace.
