Franklin Twp., Tamaqua stay alive

Franklin Township defeated Valley West on Friday to force a winner-take-all game in the District 18 10-12-Year-Old Little League Tournament.

Elsewhere, a big offensive performance helped Tamaqua stay alive in the District 18 9-11-Year-Old Tournament.

Franklin-Valley West

A pair of big innings helped Franklin Township secure a 9-4 victory in the District 18-10-12-Year-Old Tournament.

Brian Mriss (double, RBI, two runs scored), Josh McGinley (two RBIs) and Landan Steigerwalt (RBI, run scored) each had a pair of hits for Franklin, which scored three runs in the second inning and five in the third. Korbin Ahner also doubled with three RBIs and a run scored.

Rinker (run scored), Robert and Sidari had two hits apiece for Valley West, while Zola added a home run.

Franklin will host Valley West at 6 p.m. Sunday to decide the championship.

9-11 TOURNAMENT

Towamensing-Tamaqua

Tamaqua advanced from the loser’s bracket final in the District 18 9-11-Year-Old Little League Tournament with an 11-6 win over Towamensing on Thursday.

Ryan Geronimo (three RBIs, three runs scored) and Chayse Barron (triple, two runs scored) both had three hits apiece for Tamaqua, which hammered out 15 hits in the game. Joey Vidzicki was 2-for-3 with four RBIs and a run scored, while Jaxon Faneck (RBI, run scored) and Tavin Makovec (RBI, run scored) each collected two hits.

Barron also pitched two hitless innings in relief, striking out three.

With the win, Tamaqua stayed alive and will travel to Valley West Saturday at 1 p.m.

Tamaqua opened the tournament with a 13-3 win over Valley East on July 1. Joey Vidzicki, Jaxon Faneck and Tavin Makovec all had two hits for Tamaqua.

Tamaqua then suffered an 8-1 loss to Valley West on July 2. Makovec had two hits for Tamaqua, while Vidzicki doubled and scored a run.
