Bombers’ Machalik, Olympians’ Rosahac make verbal commitments

Palmerton’s Matt Machalik became the latest area athlete to secure a Division I football commitment, announcing on Twitter Thursday that he will further his career at Lehigh University after Jim Thorpe’s Noah Rosahac previously announced his plans to play at Syracuse University.

Machalik also had Division I offers from Navy and Lafayette.

As a junior, Machalik was the Times News/Lehigh Valley Health Network Football Player of the Year.

This past season, Machalik rushed for 1,216 yards – averaging 7.4 yards per carry – and 21 touchdowns. He had six games with over 100 yards rushing, and is currently the school leader in career rushing yards with 3,206 and career rushing touchdowns with 58.

He passed for 2,554 yards and 31 touchdowns as a junior, an improvement of over 1,2000 yards and 22 touchdowns from his sophomore season.

Machalik set the school single-season passing yards record as well as the mark for single-season passing touchdowns this past fall, and now holds the career passing touchdowns mark with 49.

Rosahac also had offers from Virginia Tech, Coastal Carolina, Villanova, UMass, James Madison, Lehigh, Penn, Temple, Dartmouth and Columbia.

Syracuse was the first Power 5 school to offer Rosahac.

Rosahac was the Times News Defensive Player of the Year for the second straight season as a junior.

The 3A PA Football Writers’ All State honoree finished the season with 83 tackles, 25 tackles for loss and eight sacks.
