Weissport council addresses drainage problems

Weissport council members discussed poor drainage areas in the borough during their recent meeting.

One area is at the intersection of Bridge and White streets, near Chantilly’s. During recent rains, water backed up at the drains, flooding the street.

“There were ponds over in front of the ice cream shop,” Council President Tom Ketchledge said, referring to Chantilly’s.

There are two drains near that corner that need repair; the one in front of Chantilly’s and the other across White Street on the other corner.

Another area needing repair is on along Forge Street, under the McCall Bridge. The borough had been approved for a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) in 2021, but the project didn’t move forward. The borough is working with the engineers on the project.

“The project calls for a drain at the corner of Forge and White streets, and one further down by the bridge pillar, and connect that to the borough’s existing tunnel under the road that moves the water under the road to the creek,” Ketchledge said.

Ketchledge said he met with Mike Muffley of Hanover Engineering to discuss those and other areas in need of drainage repairs. Some additional areas that were mentioned include an area on Franklin Street and a section under the McCall Bridge where water comes down off the bridge and accumulates underneath.

Weissport Borough Council plans to move ahead with a project to fix drainage issues at the intersection of Forge and White streets in the borough. JAMES LOGUE JR./SPECIAL TO THE TIMES NEWS
