Polk gunman in custody

A 58-year-old Monroe County man was jailed after refusing to exits his home following a report of gunshots in Polk Township Thursday night, state police said.

Robert Dale Johnson was committed to the Monroe County Correctional Facility following the incident, which began around 7 p.m. Troopers from Stroudsburg and Lehighton responded to Pine Court and found a man with a gun barricaded inside a home, refusing to come out, police said.

The Pennsylvania State Police Special Emergency Response Team was activated and Johnson was taken into custody without further incident.

The Polk Township Fire Department had posted a shelter in place order around 9 p.m. for Lower Greenhill Road.

“Residents located around Birch Drive, Oak Terrace and Pine Court are advised to shelter in place. Lower Green Hill Road will be closed between Mountain View Drive and Route 209. Please avoid area,” the post said.

The roads were reopened last night.
