A Monroe County man faces charges after firing a gun multiple times in a Polk Township neighborhood Thursday night.
Robert Dale Johnson, 58, of Pine Court, was charged with reckless endangerment and terroristic threats following the incident that occurred around 7 p.m.
According to court papers, Johnson was having marital problems and became intoxicated. His daughter heard loud noise outside around 6:30 p.m. and found Johnson in the detached garage, firing a rifle into the road, Oak Terrace, court papers said.
She confronted him and told him to stop, as there were nearby homes and young children in the neighborhood. He did not listen, and fired 10 rounds from the garage into the road, court papers said.
His daughter went to the porch, where Johnson joined her and explained he was upset about his wife leaving him, court papers said. He told his daughter that he wanted to harm his wife and new boyfriend and had untraceable guns, court papers said.
She believed he then went into the home’s basement and fell asleep, she told police.
Troopers form Stroudsburg and Lehighton responded and were unable to make contact with him, police said.
The Pennsylvania State Police Special Emergency Response Team was activated and Johnson was taken into custody without further incident, police said. He was remanded to the Monroe County Correctional Facility in lieu of $20,000 bail.
The Polk Township Fire Department had posted a shelter in place order Thursday night for Birch Drive, Oak Terrace and Pine Court, and advised that Lower Green Hill Road was closed. The roads were reopened.
