Carbon County swimmers will be able to swim at Mauch Chunk Lake Park this Fourth of July weekend.

David Horvath, park director, said Friday afternoon that the test results came back and the sample was “well within acceptable levels for Ecoli which is what is tested for on a weekly basis.”

He aid that the beach and swimming areas will now reopen for the weekend.

Mauch Chunk Lake Park closed the swimming areas Wednesday after a water sample from one of the three swimming areas came back above the threshold for Ecoli. This, the commissioners said, could have been due to the heavy rains the area experienced, as well as possibly a swale that drained into that section of the beach.

This weekend, as well as July 3 and 4, is open only to Carbon County and Coaldale residents, campers, season pass holders and people who rent pavilions.
