A 60-year-old trucker from California died in a crash at 7:33 a.m. Saturday on Interstate 80 westbound in Dennison Township.

State police at the Hazleton barracks identified him as Victor Lysyuk of North Highlands.

Police said he was operating a 2016 Freightliner near mile marker 267.5 when it left the roadway, continued traveling along the right side of the road and became airborne while traveling down an embankment.

Police said the rig began to overturn and struck multiple trees, landing on its roof with the cab of the rig entirely dismantled from the trailer. The deceased was located a few feet from the cab, police said.

They were assisted at the scene by the Valley Regional and Sugarloaf EMS units and personnel from the Lehigh Valley Health Network and the Luzerne County Coroner’s Office.

Police said the rig was towed from the scene.
