Parryville Borough Council’s meeting Monday began with department reports.
A notice of violation has been sent to a current short-term rental owner. Council member Patty Wentz will arrange a meeting to further discuss a short-term rental ordinance.
Code enforcement has issued citations for 20 properties, three have requested hearings.
A resident has concerns because the recycling expected to be picked up every two weeks has not happened on several occasions. The board said it will follow up on the matter.
The roads report included that weed whacking and hole patching have been done, and that the dump truck has mechanical issues. It is 13 years old and beyond repair. A motion passed to research buying or leasing a new truck.
The borough received a call about a possible mulch donation for the playground. This will be looked into. Because of vandalism of picnic tables the security camera will be moved to that area.
The fire company’s request for $2,982 for new adult firefighter equipment was approved. This includes five helmets, flashlights and gloves.
The fire company will have a breakfast from 8-11:30 a.m. July 2. “Rock and Rescue” will be July 7-9 with a funnel cake stand and beer garden. There will also be a fire company picnic from 3-10 p.m. July 15 that will include Vince’s cheese steaks. A summer fest on July 29 will be at the Bowmanstown Rod and Gun Club.
Midge Heiser from Carbon County Cares asked the council to approve a resolution regarding sewage sludge. She said eight farms in Carbon County are using sludge.
She said that farmers are being giving incentives such as free tractors for using the sludge. The board will discuss the issue at its next meeting.
The next council meeting is at 7 p.m. July 17.
