Lansford woman charged with theft by deception

A Lansford woman faces theft by deception charges after she accepted a $1,200 security deposit from a prospective tenant for a property she did not own.

Colleen Baez, 44, of East Abbott Street, was charged in the incident in which the victim gave her a security deposit for a property on West Patterson Street that she claimed to own, according to court papers.

The victim forwarded funds to Baez through a Cashed app on April 18, and then Baez stopped communicating with her and refused to give her the keys, court papers said. The victim learned later that Baez does not own the property.

The victim attempted to get her $1,200 back, but the money has not been returned, court papers said.

A preliminary hearing before District Judge Casimir Kosciolek is scheduled June 28.
