Route 248 cantilever repairs to begin
Starting Monday, Route 248 east and west will be reduced to a single lane between Route 873 and Delaware Avenue in Palmerton.
The reduced lane is so that work on the Route 248 cantilever structure just west of the intersection of 248 and 873 in Lower Towamensing Township can get underway.
The actual restriction will not extend all the way to Delaware Avenue, said Ron Young, PennDOT spokesperson.
Young said the restriction is anticipated to be in place until late September.
“The Route 248 Cantilever repairs include concrete scarification (a process that uses spinning metal blades on a machine to chip away at the top layer), concrete spall repairs and the installation of a latex modified concrete overlay,” Young said.
Young added the work is part of a $4,727,125 contract to make repairs to 10 structures (one in Carbon County, five in Monroe County and four in Schuylkill County).
The other nine structures are slated to have similar repairs and latex modified concrete overlays, he said.
The list of structures set for repair are as follows:
• Route 248 Cantilever in Lower Towamensing Township, Carbon County;
• Route 209 Bridge over Pohopoco Creek in Polk Township, Monroe County.
