June 16, 1954 - Lansford opens the Tri-County legion season by earning a narrow 3-2 victory over Palmerton. Jack Diehl collects three hits for the winners, who need an outstanding defensive play by Bernie Radocha in the bottom of the ninth inning to preserve the win. Stan Ogozalek, Joe Van Horn and Walt Ligenza all finish the contest with a hit and a run. Bob Petrash gains the mound decision, going 8 1/3 innings. Paul Ruzicka earns the save, getting the final two outs with runners on second and third. The final out comes when Radocha fields a ball between first and second, and spins completely around to make a throw to first in time to get the runner.
