Northern Valley used a big inning to earn a win over the Carbon Monarchs on Thursday.

Northern Valley used a seven-run fifth inning to help gain an 8-1 Lehigh Valley Legion victory over the Carbon Monarchs.

Leading 1-0 after four, the Chargers broke things open in the fifth. Robert Croneberger delivered a two-run triple to extend the advantage, while Trey Sterling capped the frame with a three-run double. Cole Hausman also had an RBI hit in the inning.

Shaun O’Donnell earned the win, pitching 5 2/3 innings of shutout ball. He allowed just two hits and two walks while striking out six. Wesley George tossed the final 1 1/3 innings, surrendering one hit and an unearned run while fanning three.

Hausman finished with a pair of hits, while Andrew Diehl added a hit and an RBI. Northern Valley also received a hit and a run from Nicholas Bogert and Sam Mauro, and two runs from Nicholas Scott.

Carbon’s hits came from Aiden Rarick, Nikolas Schwartz and Carter Birnbaum.

The Chargers are now 5-2, while the Monarchs fell to 2-5.

Salisbury jumped out to an early lead and made it stand in gaining a 4-1 Connie Mack League win over Franklin Township.

L. Strickland threw four shutout innings to earn the mound victory, while G. Leiner tossed the final three frames and allowed just one run.

Franklin hurler Jed Cordes settled down after a shaky first inning and pitched a solid game. Cordes allowed three first-inning runs, but only gave up one more the rest of the way in his complete-game effort. Cordes walked one and struck out one.

T. Kuder had two hits and two RBIs for the winners, while T. Kehl added a pair of hits and two runs.

Franklin’s Grant Birnbaum had a hit and an RBI. Brayden Ulshafer added a double and a run.

Palmerton-Nazareth

Palmerton was no-hit as Nazareth cruised to a 12-0 Connie Mack League victory.

The winners scored five times in both the first and second innings before ending the contest via the 10-run rule.
