Police: Calif. man had gun, drugs

A 72-year-old man from Fort Bragg, California, was committed to the Carbon County Correctional Facility, Nesquehoning, following his arrest at 12:16 a.m. May 19 after a traffic stop made by state police at Lehighton.

Police said they stopped him for Motor Vehicle Code violations while he was driving a 2019 Ford Ranger pickup at the intersection of Interchange Road and Woodchuck Drive in Towamensing Township.

Police said they observed indicators of criminal activity and a search of the vehicle followed. Police found suspected marijuana, drug paraphernalia and a gun.

Police said the man showed signs of impairment and was taken into custody.

He is charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver it, driving under the influence and other related charges.
