June 13, 1998 - The Times News Sports Department announces its Players of the Year for the spring sports season. Northwestern’s Josh Perich earns the baseball award, hitting .529 with 13 homers and 38 RBIs while leading the Tigers to a Colonial League title. Northern Lehigh’s Gale Treskot captures softball honors, going 13-6 in the circle with an ERA of 0.82. She also hits .310 at the plate with 13 extra-base hits and 18 RBIs. The track awards go to Northwestern’s Daryal Hall and Panther Valley’s Kristin Blazosky. Hall earns three district gold medals and ties the area’s all-time mark in the 100. Blazosky wins the long jump at districts and places sixth in the event at states. The top tennis player goes to Jim Thorpe’s Jared Albert, who finishes with an overall record of 13-9 and wins two matches at districts.
