Car cruise held in memory of Slatington man

Pat Rabenold, wife of Kenneth “Buzzy” Rabenold, who passed away Dec. 30, 2021, addressed those attending the second Annual Buzzy’s Cruise at the Slatington D&L Traihead and Buzzy’s Auto Body, next door to the pavilion.

“Today is all about Buzzy,” she said.

Rabenold, and her son, Kory, organized the cruise and car show, which left Becky’s Drive-in on Route 248 in Berlinsville, and ended at the trailhead. Entertainment was provided by the Large Flowerheads. Soaked Winery had a table featuring many of its wines, and Diggity Dogs had food and beverages.

“Kory and I really wanted to keep his memory alive, so we decided to do a cruise in his memory,” Pat Rabenold said.

She said the first cruise was on June 5, 2022, and was a big success.

“I am so happy to see everyone who came together today to remember him,” she said. “This day is about Buzzy. That speaks volumes about the kind of man he was. Thank you to all the participants and spectators here today.”

The cruise also was a fundraiser, with money raised going to the Northern Lehigh swimming pool and to the various fire companies that helped in directing traffic along the route of the cruise.

“It’s just something we want to remember him by,” Kory Rabenold said. “We asked everyone to join us today and remember my father. He was very special to me. He built street rods, one of his passions, and racing. Today is just about him.”

Among the cars on display was a 1932 Chevy Deuce Coupe.

“This was one of the last cars he built,” Kory said. “It was one of the cars that he went to Kansas to get. It was just a pile of rust. He refinished it; he loved that sort of thing. From the ground up, this car is all original, but he put that street rod touch on it.”

Pat Rabenold offered her thanks to the Venture Group, Nancy Treskot, Keith Schaffer of Diggity Dogs, Boyer’s Hardware for the use of its parking lot, Slatington Mayor Jeralyn Schoch, Slatington Borough and the borough crew. She also thanked Becky’s Drive-in for being the starting point of the cruise, and Sribble & Script for the signs.

She also thanked the Lehigh Township Fire Police, Germansville Fire Company, Friedens Fire Company, Slatington Fire Company, and Slatington Police, all for helping direct traffic during the cruise and at the pavilion. And she thanked the Diamond Fire Company for the use of its parking lot for guests to the show.

Additional donations are being accepted at Buzzy’s Auto Body Shop, 105 Main St, Slatington, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, or call 610-767-2721.
