GS Troop creates wooden planter boxes for bank
The entrance to a Palmerton bank has been spruced up courtesy of a generous donation by a local Girl Scout group.
Five members of Palmerton Girl Scout Troop 3305 recently set out to earn their bronze award, and decided to build four wooden planter boxes.
In turn, they chose to donate the wooden planter boxes to First Northern Bank and Trust, Lafayette Avenue and Fourth Street, Palmerton.
The Girl Scouts were on hand last week to make the presentation to bank officials.
“We’re very glad to help them achieve their Bronze award,” said Albert Yesu, CEO of the Palmerton branch. “We’re very glad they chose to display their beautiful flowers.”
Jodi Smale, leader, said that as part of the project, the girls cut and assembled the lumber, stained the lumber, filled the boxes with drainage rocks and top soil, and planted their flowers.
“As a leader, I’m really proud of their enthusiasm and teamwork to complete this project that will bring customers some enjoyment as they frequent the bank,” Smale said.
Bronze Award recipients include Haydee Alvarado, Amelia Tubbs, McKenna Freeby, Allison Bellis, and Amberlie Rogers.
Haylee said they learned how to cut the wood, built it, and plant flowers.
“I like how pretty they are,” Haydee said.
Amberlie added, “Planting is hard.”
