June 3, 1995 - The Times News Sports Department announces its five Spring Sports Athletes of the Year. Northern Lehigh receives a pair of honors, as Vanessa Strohl earns the softball award, while Tim Pfluger is named the Boys Track & Field Athlete of the Year. Strohl was 12-0 with an 0.36 ERA as a pitcher and hit .571 with 37 run and 28 stolen bases. Pfluger won gold in the 1600 and 3200 at both leagues and districts, and gained a third place in the 1600 at states. Northwestern’s Jack Mosser receives the baseball award after compiling an 8-0 record as a pitcher and hitting .413 with 26 runs and 22 RBIs. Lehighton’s Joy Haydt is the Girls Track & Field recipient after winning the javelin at leagues and districts and placing fourth at states. Palmerton’s Andy Steinmetz gains the tennis award after posting a 13-5 record.
