They proudly positioned flags on the graves of veterans to pay tribute to fallen soldiers.
In turn, members of Boy Scout Troop 187, Cub Pack 145, and Girl Scout Troop 3802 in Lehighton expressed their gratitude for their sacrifices.
Along with members of the American Legion Post 314 of Lehighton, the groups met at the Legion on Thursday evening, before they made their way up to the Lehighton Cemetery.
Fourth-grader Charlotte Tkach of Lehighton said she’s proud to have been able to do her part.
“It’s about honoring the veterans for the sacrifices they made for us,” said Charlotte, 9.
Fellow fourth-grader Joshua Slaby said he was thrilled to be able to honor our veterans.
“I think this is a good activity for Memorial Day,” Joshua said.
Commander Kevin “Spike” Long said it’s important to instill patriotism in Scouts at an early age.
“We like to get the Scouts involved,” Long said. “It’s such an important part of doing civic duty, putting flags on the graves of our veterans.”
Long said the Legion is grateful to the Scouts for their active level of involvement.
“There’s so much good participation from our Scouts,” he said. “We appreciate what they do.”
