Burn ban ends in Nesquehoning

A burn ban in Nesquehoning will sunset today after a borough fire chief asked that it not be renewed at this time.

On Wednesday, John McArdle, borough emergency management coordinator and Nesquehoning Hose Company No. 1 fire chief, told council that he felt that renewing the 30-day burn ban at this time was not necessary.

“I think at this point in time, there is no need to continue it,” he said.

Councilman Bruce Nalesnik mentioned that there has not been a lot of rain lately and asked if that was a good idea.

McArdle said that now that most of the ground cover has greened up, he feels it is pretty safe, but said that council could revisit it next month if the area dries out more.

The borough had two small brush fires recently, one on Monday, but McArdle said that even with those, he feels OK with ending the ban at this time.
