Franklin Township supervisors took the following action this week:
• On a 2-1 vote, hired Linda Smith as a part-time township secretary, at the rate of $17 an hour, beginning May 22. Supervisor Robin Cressley voted against the measure. Cressley said he was opposed due to the process, not the individual.
• Accepted the resignation of a full-time garbage truck/road crew worker and a full-time road crew worker.
• Adopted a resolution regarding price adjustment of bituminous materials for small quantities (allowing an escalator clause for bituminous material to be included as part of the seal coat proposal).
• Awarded a bid of $96,438 to Asphalt Maintenance Solutions LLC for seal coating on various roads within the township, 50,000 square yards of single bituminous seal coat.
• Awarded bids for various road materials to Lehigh Asphalt Paving & Construction Co. Inc.
• Announced that movie night will be held tonight. The Recreation Advisory and Parks Board will be showing the movie “Finding Nemo.” There will be live music from 7 to 8 p.m. The movie will start around 8:15 p.m.
• Approved a request from Palmerton borough, retroactively, to have Franklin Township fire police assist with traffic control for the Raising the House 5K on May 13.
• Approved a request from Palmerton Borough to have Franklin Township fire police assist during the Palmerton Memorial Day Parade at 9:30 a.m. May 29.
• Announced a change in garbage collection pickup for the Memorial Day holiday. May 29 pickup is changed to May 30.
