Schuylkill art center announces concert series

The Walk In Art Center, 220 Parkway, Schuylkill Haven, has announced that its Summer Concert Series kicks-off with a tribute to Queen on Saturday.

The Uptown Music Collective is back again with a Tribute to Queen and is starting the Walk In Art Center’s Summer Concert Series with a bang.

Each month, the WIAC will showcase a different music group. The gates open at 5:30 p.m. and concert starts at 6 p.m. in the Walk In’s outdoor concert space in the inner courtyard of the building.

Tickets for the event are available. Food trucks will be on hand and available for purchases.

It’s a “bring your own lawn chair” event, so drop by in time to set up, grab some food and drink, and sit back and enjoy the show.

The Uptown Music Collective is based in the Williamsport area and features 20 or more of the best musicians in the area.

The group “deep dives” into various artists or genres and produces four large-scale shows each year which regularly sell-out venues in Northcentral PA.

This year the group has performed “Friends in Low Places-A Tribute to Garth Brooks,” “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun - the Music of the Ladies of the Rock” and “Free Bird - a Tribute to Southern Rock.”

In April, they also opened for Country artist Morgan Myles, the runner-up on last year’s “The Voice” who is an Uptown Music Collect Alumni.

In May 2021, the group made their first trek to Schuylkill County for a Tribute to Led Zeppelin. Last year they featured the music of Pink Floyd.

The concert is open to all but wrist bands will be required to purchase adult beverages and IDs will be checked at the gate.

There is parking in Evans Delivery’s and Walk In Art Center’s additional parking lots and in the municipal parking lot by the Schuylkill Haven train station.

Due to the success of the concert last year, and recommendations for expansion of the concert series from attendees, the Walk In Art Center will have five concerts this summer.

Executive Director, Jacquie Engel, has lined up a mix of groups and genres to perform on the WIAC Outdoor Stage.

On July 22, the M&J Big Band will be back for a concert and the Fleetwood Mac tribute band “Nick’s in Time” will take the stage on Aug. 11.

The series ends with the return of the 1980s pop band, “Velveeta,” from State College which will rock out to “every song you’ve ever sung along to on the radio”- as they put it. For Penn State alumni and those who have partied in downtown State College, it’s a nostalgic trip in time.

“Rock the Block” is sponsored by M&T Bank, the Zwerling Foundation, D.G. Yuengling, Explore Schuylkill, and the PA Council on the Arts.
