Zeigler wins Republican sheriff race

Carbon County Sheriff Daniel G. Zeigler, who was appointed to the position in 2022 after the retirement of Sheriff Anthony Harvilla, has won the Republican ticket for his first full four-year term.

Voters chose Zeigler over Daniel McLean Jr. and Richard Branche Sr. to serve in the position.

“I felt very confident going into today that I got my message out to the voters of Carbon County and I think I have a good record,” Zeigler said Tuesday night. “I’ve been working very hard, bringing innovative strategies into the office, modernizing the office and I think that really played well with the voters because they know that I’m working extremely hard for them every day to make Carbon County a safer place.”

Zeigler received a total of 3,145 votes, while Branche received 1,158 and McLean, 988.

Zeigler also thanked his supporters who believed in him during his campaign.

“You can’t run a good campaign without good people behind you,” he said. “I had a great team. I had great supporters from all the people that endorsed me. All of these individuals made it possible.”

Zeigler also recognized his family and friends and thanked the voters for their confidence in his leadership abilities.

A Franklin Township resident, Zeigler is a 1993 graduate of Panther Valley High School.

A total of 589 write-in votes were cast on the Democratic ticket. Write-in votes will be counted by the election bureau this week.

This means that Zeigler may have an opponent in the General Election in November.
