Free supper

Zion Lutheran, Brodheadsville, is again hosting a free drive-through community supper from 5 to 6 p.m.

Vets Commission

Polk Township Veterans Memorial Commission is slated to meet at 6 p.m.

Quilt session

The Western Pocono Women’s Club will be having a quilting session at the home of member Pat Mackes in Effort tomorrow, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Attendees are asked to call her at 610-681-4967 or email pamack05@ptd.net to let her know if attending.

In addition to lap quilts, the club also in the process of making hammocks for the cats at the Monroe County Animal Shelter.

Eldred road closed

Turkey Hill Rd. will be closed on Thursday, for a pipe replacement.

Lions meeting

The Western Pocono Lions Club will meet Thursday at 6 p.m. It is a dinner meeting at Cherry in Kresgeville.

Members are reminded that dues are due by June 30. They can be given to Lion Jon Evans or mailed to Western Pocono Lions Club, 519 Tallow Drive, Blakeslee, PA 18610.

Notice of change

The regular meeting of the Eldred Township Historical Society scheduled for May 16, was postponed until this coming Monday at 6 p.m. at the Western Pocono Community Library.

After the meeting, there will be a tour of the library’s collection of the wax dioramas of Phoebe Conrad.

Regular monthly meetings, which are on the third Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m., will resume on June 20, at the Eldred Township Municipal Building.

A new feature will be a surprise presentation at each meeting.

Great donation

Kinsley’s ShopRite, GeneralMills Cereal, and Wakefern Corp. recently donated $3,000 to the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network through their Partners in Caring program.

That gift will be used to help pay for the electricity that powers the refrigerators and the fuel for the freezer truck.

QV 60th anniversary

Quiet Valley is holding its annual plant sale May 19, 20 and 21, 27 and 28 and there is an overlap of activities as the QV Farm Animal Frolic is also being held May 19, 20, and 21 as well as May 27 and 28.

Two rooms of the Farm House-the Cellar kitchen and the New kitchen will be open to walk in and see historical demonstrations.

During the first weekend there will be a Hessian soldier encampment and for the second, the 142nd Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry Co. G. will be there for a usual Civil War encampment.

Spanish Charismatic

Our Lady Queen of Peace hosts a Spanish Charismatic Group meets every Friday at 7 p.m. in the Cafe. All are welcome.

Confirmation Sunday

Effort UMC will hold Confirmation during its 11 a.m service Sunday. Fifteen young folks will be recognized.

Polk meeting

The Polk Township Board of Supervisors is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m., Monday.

Youth groups

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church has two Youth groups. The 9th through 12th grade, Teens of Peace, meet from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays.

The 7th and 8th grade group, Living 4:12, meets from 6 to 7:15 p.m. Wednesdays.

Pizza pick-up

Folks who ordered pizza from McMichaels UMC are reminded that pick-up is at the church in McMichaels before 11 a.m., Saturday.

Men’s breakfast

The Men’s breakfast at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is held on the third Saturday of the month, after the 8 a.m. service.

Flea market

St. Peter’s UMC, Saylorsburg, has announced its flea market for Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a rain date of May 27. Vendor spaces that may still be available in the paved lot include a table. Spaces on the grass are without a table.

Vendor spaces must be prepaid and are non-refundable. Checks should be made payable to St. Peter’s United Methodist Church, noting flea market in the memo.

SAL meeting

The Sons of the American Legion, Post 927, Gilbert, will meet at 7 p.m., Tuesday.

Senior Walk

A free event for all Monroe County Seniors, age 55 years and older, the 25th Annual Senior Fitness Walk will take place next Wednesday courtesy of an invitation by the Pocono Family YMCA.

The walk will be held at the Stroudsburg High School on Main Street.

The first 75 people registering will receive a free T- shirt. Same day registrations will begin at 9 a.m.

Line up at the school’s track is at 10 a.m. to begin the walk. The length of the walk will be approximately one mile (Four times around the track). Following the walk one can return to the “Y” for light refreshments.

Piano recital

Nate Sassoon, organist at Effort UMC, will be performing some of his own compositions and that of Handel, Mozart, and McDowellon from 6 to 8 p.m. next Wednesday, being held in New York at the Opera America’s National Opera Center.

Pentecost celebrated

Our Lady Queen of Peace is seeking parishioners who speak a second language to assist in offering the petitions on Pentecost weekend, May 27 and May 28. Anyone who can volunteer is asked to call the church office at 619-681-6137 and tell which service is prefered- 5 p.m., 8 a.m. or 11 a.m. Mass.

The Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church will celebrate Pentecost Sunday on May 28.

Firemen’s Festival

The West End Firemen’s Festival will take place June 1, 2 and 3 at the West End Fairgrounds in Gilbert.

Gates open at 5:30 p.m., Thursday and Friday, and at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Entertainment on Friday, from 6 p.m., is Timewhys. The Cramer Brothers will be featured from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday.

On Saturday the gates open at 3 p.m. and Chris Eckert is the entertainer from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. while the Brian Dean Moore Band is on from 6 to 9 p.m.

There is a charge for parking and attendees are advised to bring lawn chairs.

This benefit for the four WE Fire Companies ends with fireworks on Saturday, at 9:30 p.m. Food and drink will be available each night.

Sponsors are needed and craft vendors are wanted.

St. John’s Lutheran Church, Effort, is accepting orders for ready-to-bake pizza until June 4, by calling 570-629-4309renate, and leaving one’s name, phone number and number of pizzas.

PIck-up is between 4 and 5 p.m., at the church, June 9.

Ross Historical

The Ross Township Historical Society Museum will be open for visitors on June 4 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. It is located in the Ross Township Municipal Hall annex, 258 Anchorage Road, Saylorsburg.

Featured will be LeRoy Hawk, a long-time Ross Township resident who will have very old photos of people and places throughout the township.

This is not a presentation, but an opportunity to speak with someone with a remarkable memory and interesting reminisces of “how things used to be.”

All are welcome; there is no charge for admission.

All donations will go to the church’s benevolence fund to help meet needs in the community.

Identity theft event

State Rep. Jack Rader is hosting an Identity theft seminar from 5 to 7 p.m., June 15, at the Ross Township Municipal Building, 250 Anchorage Rd., Saylorsburg.

Free Kresgeville VBS

Salem St. Paul Lutheran Church, 138 Trach Road, Kresgeville, is holding free Vacation Bible School time for students in K through Grade 8, from June 25 through June 28.

The theme is “God’s Good Creation” and the hours are: June 25, 10 to 11:30 a.m., after 9:30 a.m. worship; Monday through Wednesday, 1 to 3 p.m.

Pre-K kids welcome with an adult. Older teens welcome to help with activities

The students will learn about animals and get to hold a baby goat.
