Two local students were honored by Widener University, in partnership with WCAU-TV NBC10 and Telemundo62, with a Widener University High School Leadership Award for 2023.

The program recognized 104 students from high schools throughout the region for their abilities to stand up for what they believe in, speak out on behalf of others and make an impact in their communities.

Haley Kuehner, of Palmerton, who attends Carbon Career & Technical Institute, has made a difference by leveraging social media to ensure the success of a donation drive for a local animal shelter and excelling in her rigorous vocational school curriculum.

Delaney Szwast, of Walnutport, who attends Northern Lehigh High School, has made a difference by chairing school spirit days and teacher appreciation weeks, organizing practice for her temporarily coach-less field hockey team and volunteering as co-teacher of a Sunday school class.
