State police at Fern Ridge
State police at the Fern Ridge barracks reported on the following incidents:
• A 59-year-old woman from Effort reported someone opened a bank account in her name, but the fraudulent act was caught by LifeLock.
• A 54-year-old Stroudsburg woman is the victim of an identity theft/theft by deception incident. Police said they were called at 10:25 a.m. April 25 to Harrow Drive, Jackson Township, where the woman provided information.
She told police she was notified by phone that a package containing cocaine was seized by the US. Border Patrol personnel in El Paso, Texas, with her name on it, and to avoid being criminally charged the woman needed to transfer her personal savings to bitcoin to pay for an alternate dispute resolution.
Police said no funds were obtained.
• Police charged a man and a woman, both 22 and from Effort, with harassment after they were called to a disturbance at 9:53 p.m. April 29 on Lakeside Drive in Chestnuthill Township. The woman kicked the man in the face and the man struck the woman with a case of beer.
• A 37-year-old Wilkes-Barre woman is facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol after a traffic stop for violations while driving a 2020 Toyota on Interstate 80 in Kidder Township.
She was taken into custody and transported to the state police barracks for processing.
• A 54-year-old man and a 64-year-old woman, both from Albrightsville, were cited for harassment after they were summoned to a domestic dispute.
Police said they were called at 10:30 a.m. April 21 to Beaver Drive in Penn Forest Township where the couple engaged in a fight.
• Police cited a 43-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman, both from Brodheadsville, after they responded to a domestic incident at 5:19 p.m. May 4 along Shafer Drive in Chestnuthill Township.
Police said they were involved in an argument which became physical when they pushed each other.
