State police at Fern Ridge said this week a suspect who attempted to purchase a firearm at Eastern Army and Outfitters, Route 903, Penn Forest Township, was denied the sale after a background check through the Pennsylvania Instant Check System.

Police said the attempt dates back to Oct. 25, 2021, when the suspect completed the firearms transaction record. A store employee ran the background check and learned the purchase was denied.
