Regional Lions club forming

A regional Lions Club is forming in the Panther Valley and Weatherly area.

Communities where members may come from include Coaldale, Hauto, Lansford, Nesquehoning, New Columbus, Summit Hill, Weatherly and surrounding communities.

An open house for prospective members of the region will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 25, at the Lehighton Boys and Girls Band Hall, lower level, 197 N. 6th St, Lehighton.

Anyone 18 years and older is invited to attend the event.

Bob Silliman encourages individuals to come and see if they might be a fit as a Lion, encouraging them to bring a family member, friend, or neighbor, as this often adds to the enjoyment of being part of the service organization.

The area needs a Lions club said Silliman, Lions Zone chairman for Region II, Zone A.

Silliman believes Lions in the lower anthracite communities will make a difference in the areas they serve.

Lions’ members can help within their own communities and can even expand their work to assist with national disaster relief efforts.

Members can be assured that they will receive a great deal of information, ongoing support, and guidance to become a successful club.

It’s important that the club selects their officers and that members have a voice in the projects they pursue.

Refreshments will be served at the event.
