Local Roundup: results from May 3

The Palmerton baseball and Northwestern softball teams each recorded victories on Wednesday.

BASEBALL

Palmerton-Salisbury

Trey Sterling’s three-run home run sparked a five-run third inning that helped Palmerton secure a 6-4 Colonial League win over Salisbury.

Nate Stroup reached base on a fielding error to start the Bombers’ third inning before Cam Pengelly reached on a fielder’s choice. Shortly after, Sterling connected for his blast to put the winners on the board quickly. Cole Serfass, who walked, and Jacob Grammes, who singled, eventually scored on another Falcons’ miscue to take a 5-0 lead.

In the seventh, the Bombers (11-5 overall; 10-5 CL) made the most of a bases-loaded situation, as Nate Steinmetz drew a walk to allow Serfass to score an insurance run.

Sterling added a single to his homer, while Grammes recorded two singles, a run scored and a walk.

Jake Zellin led the way for the Falcons (9-8, 8-6), as he posted a single, double and a two-run home run in the fourth inning.
