Track & Field Roundup: Results from May 2

The Jim Thorpe and Palmerton boys both clinched regular-season league titles on Tuesday.

The Olympians defeated Pine Grove to claim the Schuylkill League Division 1 crown, while the Blue Bombers swept Northern Lehigh and Notre Dame to grab the Colonial League championship.

Jim Thorpe-Pine Grove

The Jim Thorpe boys captured the Schuylkill League Division 1 regular-season title after gaining a 96-39 victory over Pine Grove.

The Olympians finished with a 6-0 record.

The Thorpe girls completed the sweep of the Cardinals, gaining a 96-43 win.

Ryan Bailor (800, 1600) and Kolby Cavanaugh (300 hurdles, triple jump) both posted a pair of individual firsts for the Olympians boys, who also received firsts from Ridge Snyder (400), Henry Snyder (3200), Justin Yescavage (110 hurdles), Salvatore Capria (shot put), Bryson Heydt (discus) and Rowan Melber (javelin).

The Jim Thorpe girls ended with a 5-1 mark in league action. Multiple wins were turned in by Kaila O’Connor (100, 200), Celi Gonzalez-Rodriguez (1600, 3200) and Kelsey Patton (long, high jump). Other firsts came from Aubrey Bonner (800), Aurora VanAuken (300 hurdles), Mara Levins (discus) and Gabby Cinicola (triple jump).

No. Lehigh-Notre Dame-Palmerton

The Palmerton boys clinched the Colonial League regular season championship by defeating both Northern Lehigh and Notre Dame.

The Blue Bombers, who finished league play at 11-0, rolled past the Bulldogs 121-28 and Crusaders 92-58.

In the girls meet, Notre Dame earned a sweep while Palmerton posted a 100-47 victory over Nolehi to earn a split.

Owen Hibell (800, 1600), Zack Anthony (shot put, discus) and Stephen Jones (long jump, triple jump) all collected two individual wins for the Palmerton boys. The Bombers also received firsts from Ty Sander (200), Connor Hibell (3200), Bryson Walters (300 hurdles) and Jackson Stein (pole vault).

For the Bulldogs (1-10), Nick Frame posted a pair of wins (high jump, javelin).

In the girls meet, Nataly Walters collected three wins (100, long jump, triple jump) for Palmerton (8-3). Also posting wins for the Bombers were Erin Gombert (200), Emma Snyder (high jump), Maddy Bennyhoff (pole vault) and Jessica Heydt (shot put).

The Bulldogs (3-8) received firsts from Evelina Mayak (100 hurdles), Caitlin Kirk (discus) and Dekota Barthold (javelin).

Catasauqua-Pen Argyl-Northwestern

The Northwestern boys and girls both posted Colonial League sweeps against Catasauqua and Pen Argyl.

The Tiger boys earned a 94-54 win over the Rough Riders, and a 98-52 triumph over Pen Argyl. The NW girls downed Catty 111-39 and handled Pen Argyl 118-32.

Matthew Santana (1600, 3200) posted a pair of wins in the boys meet. The Tigers (7-4) also received firsts from three other athletes - Samuel Bower (800), Shane Leh (110 hurdles) and Gavin Nelson (high jump).

In the girls action, Faith Yost won both the long and high jumps. Other firsts by Northwestern (10-1) came from Carsyn Van Norman (200), Megan Fornwalt (400), Sophia Cornell (1600), Anelina Klein (3200), Sadie Fenstermaker (shot put), Hannah Gober (javelin) and Grace Yost (pole vault).

Tamaqua-Blue Mountain

Tamaqua was swept by Blue Mountain in Schuylkill League action.

The Eagles posted a 103-47 win in the boys meet, while their girls earned a 105-45 victory.

Martin Griffin had a pair of firsts for the Blue Raiders in boys action, taking the long and triple jumps. Tamaqua also received firsts from Jessie Gormley (800), Anthony Marchetti (1600) and Jacob Hehn (discus).

In the girls meet, the Raiders received first-place finishes from Sarah Coccio (200), Isabella Jones (3200) and Katelynn Fredericks (100 hurdles).

Pleasant Valley-Stroudsburg

Stroudsburg posted a sweep of Pleasant Valley in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference action.

The Mountie boys cruised to a 117 1/2-32 1/2 victory, while the PV girls dropped a 96-54 decision.

The Bears received a pair of firsts from both Reese Ruggiero (long jump, pole vault) and Mattison Hyland (300 hurldes, triple jump) in the girls competition, while Nemani Moon (800), Nora Jones (discus) and Kara Miller (javelin) each added an individual win(S).

Jarael Moore (200), James Morton (800) and Matthew Altemose (110 hurdles) (ALL) had first(S) for the PV boys.

The Hurricane boys downed the Wreckers 96-45, while the Haven girls rolled to a 124-15 win.

Ian McLaurin had a pair of wins (100, 200) for the Weatherly boys, while Michael Berger (800) and Owen Broskoskie (high jump) also added firsts.

The Wrecker girls received an individual win from Kelly Reiner in the javelin.
