Wildlands Conservancy announces May events

The Wildlands Conservancy’s Community and Educational Events for May have been announced.

Most of the events are offered to the public free of charge; others at a low fee.

May 3: You & Me at Dorothy Rider Pool Wildlife Sanctuary: Habitat Heroes 9:30-11 a.m. at Dorothy Rider Pool Wildlife Sanctuary, 3701 Orchid Place, Emmaus. “You & Me” is a program designed for children aged 3-5 and their grown-ups. This month: Meet some native wildlife and earn the title of habitat hero and receive your own wildlife warrior badge. There is a fee; please register on line.

May 5: Party with the Frogs, 6-7:30 p.m. at Dorothy Rider Pool Wildlife Sanctuary. A unique way to celebrate Cinco de Mayo, share in the joy of finding and learning about the frogs found in our many ponds. There is a fee; register on line.

May 7: Wildlands Conservancy: Felted Birdhouses with Artist Mallory Zondag 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at Dorothy Rider Pool Wildlife Sanctuary, 3701 Orchid Place, Emmaus. Learn the ancient and awesome art of wet felting during this 4-hour adult workshop. Using wool, hot water, soap and the power of your own body you will learn how to transform wool into a cozy bird house.

Instructor is Mallory Zondag Mixed Media Fiber artist and artist educator. There is a fee of $30; please register online.

May 9: Wildlands Conservancy: Dr. Doug Tallamy – Nature’s Best Hope 7-9 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Allentown, 3232 Tilghman St., Allentown. Tallamy, a professor and chair of Entomology and Wildlife Ecology at the University of Delaware, will talk about simple ways that we can enhance biodiversity in our own backyards.
