Carbon County Manager Mortimer Smedley was the featured speaker during the official ribbon cutting and dedication ceremonies held Sunday at the newly-opened Lehighton Community Recreation Center.

As the borough manager, Smedley played a major role in the center’s project, having drafter the actual building plans.

Among those who also participated in the ceremony were Mayor Wilbur Bauchspies, Adam Begel, chairman of the Carbon County Redevelopment Authority, commissioners Albert Koch, Dean D.W. DeLong and Luther Getz and the Rev. Robert Magnus of All Saints Episcopal Church, Lehighton.
