Local Roundup: Results from April 27
Northwestern and Pleasant Valley clinched district berths in baseball action Thursday, while Marian earned a postseason spot in softball.
Palmerton, meanwhile, gained shutout wins in both baseball and softball, while Pleasant Valley earned three other victories - in softball, girls lacrosse and boys lacrosse.
BASEBALL
No. Lehigh-Northwestern
Northwestern clinched a district playoff berth with a 13-3 victory over Northern Lehigh in Colonial League play.
Robert Croneberger had two hits, one a home run, and knocked in three to lead the Tigers offensively.
Eli Zimmerman added two hits, one a double, two runs and two RBIs, while Wesley George finished with a single, double, a pair of runs and an RBI. Northwestern, now 10-6 overall and 8-5 in the league, also received a couple hits and two runs from Justin Augustus.
The Bulldogs (3-13; 3-10) were led by Brayden Tocci, who had a hit and two RBIs.

Catasauqua-Palmerton
Jacob Grammes and Derek King combined on a five-hit shutout to lead Palmerton to a 5-0 Colonial League victory over Catasauqua.
Grammes tossed the first five innings, allowing the five hits. He didn’t issue any walks and struck out eight. King pitched the final two frames, allowing just one walk while fanning five.
Grammes also did damage at the plate, finishing 3-for-3 with two RBIs. The Blue Bombers, who improved to 11-5 overall and 8-5 in the league, also received two hits and two runs from Cameron Pengelly, and a pair of hits and an RBI from Chase Reph.
For the Roughies (3-13; 2-13), Bryann Rivera had two hits.

Stroudsburg-Pleasant Vy.
Pleasant Valley took over first place in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference North Division with a 3-1 victory over Stroudsburg at Coca-Cola Park.
The win also clinched a district playoff berth for the Bears, who are now 10-7 overall, 8-5 in the EPC and 6-1 in the division.
Nate Mostosky earned the win, allowing six hits and striking out seven in 5 2/3 innings of work. Ben Mostosky registered the save, recording the final four outs.
Nate Loch had two hits, scored twice and stole three bases for PV, while Dakota Lucas added a couple hits and an RBI. Jack Smale chipped in with a double and a run.
The Mounties, who slipped to 7-8 overall, 6-8 in the conference and 6-2 in the division, received two hits from Joshua McMahon.

North Schuylkill-Tamaqua
Jeff Markosky- who was the winning pitcher - had a big day at the plate to help power North Schuylkill to a 14-3 Schuylkill League victory over Tamaqua.
Markosky had three hits, two of them doubles, and knocked in five runs for the Spartans.
The winners, now 7-8 overall and 4-5 in the league, also received two hits and three RBIs from both Kieran Keninitz and Peyton Groody.
For the Blue Raiders, Wyatt Steigerwalt collected two hits and scored a pair of runs. Cian McLaughlin also contributed a pair of hits and an RBI.
The loss dropped Tamaqua to 8-5 and 5-4.

SOFTBALL
Marian-Weatherly
With first place on the line in Division 3 of the Schuylkill League, Marian’s Morgan Kelly outdueled Weatherly’s Madisyn vonFrisch and led the Fillies to a 1-0 victory.
Kelly allowed just two hits and one walk while striking out 13.
Marian scored the game’s only run in the fourth inning when Anna Grabosky walked. Courtesy runner Zoe Katona stole second and eventually scored on an error.
Kelly, Jackie Guth and Alise Heisey had the hits for the winners, who improved to 10-4 overall and 5-4 in the league. The victory also clinched a district berth for the Fillies.
vonFrisch, meanwhile, gave up just one walk and struck out 12 - including the 500th of her career. vonFrisch also had one of her team’s hits, while Kelly Michael had the other one.
The loss dropped the Wreckers to 8-5 and 4-5.

Pleasant Valley-ES South
Kailyn Getz fired a two-hitter to lead Pleasant Valley to a 1-0 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over East Stroudsburg South.
Getz allowed just one walk and struck out 11.
She also contributed to the game’s only run, which came in the fourth inning. Getz singled to lead off the frame, moved to second on a ground out and advanced to third on a passed ball. Jovie Valenzuela then delivered a sacrifice fly to plate Getz.
Lydia Borger, Brianca Pridham, Sam Ratti and Danica Getz had the other hits for PV, who improved to 9-8 overall, 9-5 in the conference and 6-2 in the division.
The Cavaliers, who received a solid pitching performance from Katie Verwys, fell to 6-11.

Catasauqua-Palmerton
Carly Gaffney had a big game for Palmerton as the Blue Bombers cruised to a 10-0 Colonial League victory over Catasauqua.
Gaffney pitched a two-hitter, striking out 12 while not issuing any walks. At the plate, she finished 3-for-3 with two RBIs.
Palmerton’s Cadee Munjone also collected two hits - a double and a triple - and knocked in three runs.
The win upped the Bombers record to 11-6 overall and 9-5 in the league. The Roughies fell to 6-10 and 4-10.

Shenandoah Valley-Panther Valley
Mikayla Yuricheck knocked in four runs and Panther Valley rolled to an 18-3 Schuylkill League victory over Shenandoah Valley.
Yuricheck finished with two hits, one a double, for the Panthers. Megan O’Brien added a triple and two RBIs, while Ava Alabovitz and Caroline Breslin both finished with a hit and knocked in two runs.
Alabovitz also earned the pitching win, allowing just three hits.
For Shenandoah, Morgan Labosky accounted for all of her team’s runs with a three-run homer.
PV is now 6-9 overall and 3-6 in the league. The Devils dropped to 2-10 and 2-7.

North Schuylkill jumped out to an early lead en route to a 13-3 Schuylkill League victory over Tamaqua.
Morgan Dinger and Haley Koutch each had two RBIs for North Schuylkill, which built an 8-0 lead after three innings.
The Blue Raiders received two hits from both Megan Linkhorst and Leah Crowley.
The Spartans improved to 9-3 overall and 9-1 in the league, while Tamaqua slipped to 4-11 and 2-8.

GIRLS LACROSSE
Saucon Valley-Pleasant Valley
A big second half allowed Pleasant Valley to pull away from Saucon Valley and claim a 12-4 victory.
Devon Bush finished with a team-high five goals for the Bears, who only held a 4-2 halftime lead.
Rylee Rath contributed two goals and three assists, while the winners also received a goal and a helper from both Keylee Dugey and Olivia Iandoli.
Others adding goals for PV, still undefeated at 14-0, included Alivia Rath, Madison Fava and Riley Green.
Northwestern-Emmaus
Emily Hollinger had seven goals and two assists to power Emmaus to a 19-8 victory over Northwestern.
The Green Hornets (12-3) also received four goals and an assist from Bri McClain.
For the Tigers, who fell to 6-6, Alexis Vennera finished with five goals and an assist, while Ava Collins contributed a pair of goals. Sydney Wright also chipped in with a goal.
BOYS LACROSSE
Emmaus-Northwestern
Emmaus posted a 10-3 victory over Northwestern.
Lee Rooney led the Green Hornets with three goals, while Will Barber collected two tallies and an assist.
The Tigers received goals from Cody Hallock, Stone Sosnovik and Cade Christopher. Devon Hildebrand assisted on two of the goals.
Northwestern keeper Bailen Smargiassi finished with 15 saves.
Emmaus upped its mark to 10-4, while the Tigers dipped to 7-5.
Pleasant Valley-Saucon Valley
Pleasant Valley won its third straight contest after topping Saucon Valley, 14-3.
The win pushed the Bears over the .500 mark at 8-7, while the Panthers fell to 1-11.
