Carbon County Court Judge Joseph J. Matika recently sentenced four people after negotiating plea agreements to criminal charges.
Edward Allen Reimer, 54, of Lehighton, was charged with driving under the influence, incapable of driving safely; driving under the influence, highest rate of alcohol; and careless driving on Oct. 14, 2022.
On the DUI impaired driving charge, Judge Matika ordered him to pay court costs; a $500 fine; pay a LiveScan fee of $100; serve 48 hours to six months in Carbon County prison; pay a $50 monthly supervision fee; enroll in a treatment intervention group; perform 25 hours of community service; and successfully complete Alcohol Highway Safety School.
Zachary Wise Showers, 22, of Leesport, was charged with obstructing police; False Identification To Law Enforcement Officer; driving under the influence of a controlled substance, impaired ability; possession of drug paraphernalia; driving an unregistered vehicle; driving without a license; and operating a vehicle without a valid inspection sticker on Oct. 10, 2022.
On the DUI controlled substance charge, Judge Matika ordered him to pay court costs; a $1,000 fine; pay a LiveScan fee of $100; serve 72 hours to six months in Carbon County prison, with 15 days credit; lose his license for 12 months; pay a $50 monthly supervision fee; enroll in outpatient treatment; perform 25 hours of community service; and successfully complete Alcohol Highway Safety School.
On the charge of driving without a license, Matika fined Showers $200.
On the lack of a valid inspection sticker charge, he fined him $25.
Ty Robert Smith, 33, of Stroudsburg, was charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, impaired ability; driving under the influence of a controlled substance driving while his license was suspended or revoked; speeding; and careless driving on Sept. 6, 2021.
On the DUI controlled substance charge, Judge Matika ordered him to pay court costs; a $1,000 fine; pay a LiveScan fee of $100; serve 30 days to six months in Carbon County prison, with 30 days credit; lose his license for 12 months; pay a $50 monthly supervision fee; enroll in long-term inpatient treatment; perform 25 hours of community service; and successfully complete Alcohol Highway Safety School.
On the charge of driving while his license was revoked, Matika fined Smith $200.
Angela Rose Tornetta, 25, of Gilbertsville, was charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana; possession of drug paraphernalia; and possession of a controlled substance on Jan. 3, 2022.
On the marijuana charge, Judge Matika ordered her to pay court costs; serve four to nine days in jail, with credit for nine days; and to pay bench warrant costs.
