Driving under the influence cases

Police reported on several driving under the influence and drug cases:

• Nicole C. Woodard, 27, of Orwigsburg, has charges of driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance pending against her following a one-vehicle crash at 7:44 p.m. March 28 on Tumbling Run Road in Blythe Township.

State police at the Frackville barracks said she sustained suspected serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital after the crash.

Police said she was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt westbound when it went off the north side of the roadway and struck a tree. The vehicle was heavily damaged damages and had to be towed from the scene.

Police said during interaction with Woodard, signs of impairment were detected. She consented to a legal blood draw.

• Thomas McCarthy, 62, of Minersville, is facing several counts of driving under the influence, as well as summary violations, after state police at the Frackville barracks responded to a one-vehicle crash at 5:47 a.m. Feb. 2.

Police said they responded to mile marker 139.1 southbound in Kline Township after a vehicle struck the guide rail. A witness told police the vehicle left the scene.

Police located the vehicle a short distance from the scene ad McCarthy was attempting to change a flat tire on his 2012 Hyundai Veloster and showed signs of intoxication. He was transported to the Lehigh Valley Hospital-East, Pottsville, where he consented to a blood draw to determine his blood alcohol content.

• Mark Rex, 32, of Germansville, is facing charges of driving under the influence after state police at the Bethlehem barracks were called to Buckery and Central roads in Heidelberg Township at 8:24 a.m. March 25. Police said they were summoned for a disabled vehicle and found Rex in a 2017 Chrysler 300.

• At 9:17 p.m. March 28, Lehighton police attempted to stop a vehicle in the 100 block of South Third Street for traffic violations, stop sign, suspended registration and vehicle fled. Police ended up in a vehicle pursuit and served a search warrant on the vehicle. The driver has pending charges for multiple traffic violation and fleeing and attempting to elude and possession of small amount of marijuana. The passenger is also being charged with obstructing administration of law and possession of small amount of marijuana. The offenders were a 20-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman.

• Lehighton police initiated a traffic stop at 11:25 a.m. April 9 along Route 443 for routine traffic violations. The driver, a 29-year-old Northampton County man, showed signs consistent with impairment.

Roadside sobriety testing was administered and it was determined the driver was impaired. He was taken into custody and transported to St. Luke’s Carbon Campus for a blood draw. DUI and related charges are pending the results of the blood analysis.
