Pleasant Valley school pays tribute to volunteers
Pleasant Valley Elementary School honored its volunteers on Friday with a thank you breakfast in the cafeteria for Volunteer Appreciation Week.
Sabrina Albright, the assistant principal at the elementary school, said Volunteer Appreciation Week is actually this week, but they honored the volunteers early because this week is very busy. There are several field trips planned, and a special Earth Day celebration by the PTO, to name a few.
“We wanted to hold it on a day when our volunteers would be able to participate,” Albright said.
The elementary school has more than 30 volunteers who are parents or family members of the students. They help in many ways in the school, at events, and in the Parent Teacher Organization.
“We strive to have a welcoming and fun environment at PVE, and having volunteers helps us do exactly that,” Albright said. “Volunteers provide our students with special treats, rewards, fun activities, and even extra academic support. Our volunteers help open milk cartons, chaperon field trips, lead games on special activity days, help students study their sight words, and so much more.”
At the breakfast, the volunteers enjoyed coffee, tea, pastries and fresh fruit. Joan Bumbulsky’s second-grade class made place mats for each of the volunteers for their breakfast and cards.
The volunteers enjoyed a performance by kindergarten students in Christie Borger, Val Rudawski and Jennifer Krebs’ classes. They sang a thank you song with accompanying sign language, Albright said.
Tracy Hauze’s second grade class performed a poem they wrote. And school Principal Roger Pomposello and Albright both thanked the volunteers for everything they do for the students at PVES.
“It takes a village to help our students flourish, and the volunteers who help us deserve to be recognized,” Albright said.
The event was organized by the staff and administration of PVES.
