One person is dead after a crash during a police pursuit early this morning in Monroe County.
Troopers from the Stroudsburg state police barracks initiated a traffic stop for moving equipment violations and suspicion of DUI in Stroud Township.
Police said the driver had an active arrest warrant and refused to exit the vehicle, becoming combative at the traffic stop.
The driver fled the scene, and troopers pursued the vehicle for about 19 miles before it crashed into a wooded area.
Fire departments extricated the driver and a passenger from the vehicle and transported them to nearby hospitals for injuries sustained in the crash.
Police said an additional passenger, after being extricated from the vehicle, was dead at the scene.
Monroe County officials said Memorial Blvd, Route 611, is closed at Prospect Street to Interstate 380, Hap Arnold Blvd to the Army Depot from Interstate 380 is closed, and the Exit 8 off ramp from Interstate 380 South is closed until further notice.
Police are investigating and will release information when it becomes available.
