St. Luke’s Monroe Campus held a beam topping off ceremony for its East Tower on Tuesday despite the chilly weather and gusty winds, and after several tries workers placed the beam.
“Tomorrow it’ll be 90 degrees and raining so welcome to the Poconos,” said Don Seiple, St. Luke’s Monroe Campus president,
The new four-story, 165,000 square-foot patient care tower will double the size of the existing hospital when completed.
“This milestone will bring us closer to our opening in 2024,” Seiple said. “The four story addition is going to provide us with an additional 36 medical surgery beds. It’s going to provide us with additional surgical or procedural space. It’s also going to continue to grow outpatient services, emergency room and other services for this county, and this addition will allow us to further deliver on our commitment.”
St. Luke’s Monroe Campus, located on Route 611 in Stroud Township, opened in 2016. It has patient rooms including beds for critical care patients, an emergency room, a helipad, operating rooms, a cardiac catheterization lab and diagnostic technology.

The crane operator slowly raises the final beam to the top of the building.
Workers wait as the crane operator slowly lowers the beam down so they can place it.
