Police: 8-year-old shot by BB gun in Monroe dies

An 8-year-old boy who was shot by a BB gun in Stroud Township earlier this month has died.

The Stroud Area Regional Police Department said at 5:47 p.m. April 3, police were dispatched to the 100 block of Mill Creek Road for a report of an unconscious 8-year-old boy with a head injury.

Police said the boy was flown by medical helicopter to a local hospital. Detectives were called to the scene to investigate due to the cause of the injury being unknown.

Police said the initial investigation revealed that multiple children were in the playing area outside when the injury occurred, and no adults witnessed the incident.

Police said the investigation is ongoing, and revealed the victim’s injury was caused by a BB gun. No one else was injured.

Police said the boy remained in the hospital in critical condition and died on Wednesday.

Police said an autopsy was conducted on Thursday, in which the Lehigh County Coroner determined the cause of death as gunshot wound, and manner of death as a homicide.

Police said the incident remains an active investigation. It was determined to be an isolated incident and there is no threat to the community.

Police said those involved in the incident have been identified, but their names were not being released at this time due to the criminal investigation, and to allow the family of the child time to mourn privately.
