Plow Day in Tamaqua showcases tractors, farm life
Darin Brensinger isn’t a farmer, but he plans on bringing his antique tractor to Plow Day 2023 in the Lewistown Valley.
He hopes others will follow his lead and take their old tractor or plow to the April 15 event at Felty Farms at 881 Catawissa Rd., Tamaqua.
They’ll be able to plow the fields there, and give others a first-hand look at what the agricultural business was like decades ago.
He said that Plow Day is for everyone – not just those who have relic farm equipment.
“Plow Day will offer a glimpse of what it was like to be farmer back in the day,” said Brensinger, Orwigsburg, who is president of the Schuylkill County Agricultural Museum. The museum is sponsoring the free public event, just as it has done for the past 8 years or so.
“It will show plowing in the way that the old timers did it,” Brensinger said. “We will have antique tractors of various kinds along with small plows.”
A team of mules will be on hand, too, and they will pull a hand plow.
“They are from an Amish farm near Lancaster and they are still used for plowing,” Brensinger said.
Registration for those who bring their own equipment begins at 9 a.m., followed by plowing at 10 a.m.
“Everyone can come and participate. If they don’t bring a tractor, we can put them on something,” Brensinger said.
A hayride wagon will transport visitors to the action at the Felty Farms fields, which are near Heisler’s Cloverleaf Dairy Bar.
Food and drinks will be available for purchase.
