During conversations with employees, those who oversee Hope & Coffee in Tamaqua realized that money management can be problematic.
Some employees, manager David Hampson said, admitted that they weren’t familiar with budgeting or credit.
“Some of the new employees have asked where they can open a bank account around town and often, they have overdrawn from an account there in the past,” he added. “If someone is unable to afford the cost of the penalty at that time it can make opening an account difficult.”
In an effort to educate employees - along with the public - Hope & Coffee will host a presentation by M&T Bank at 2 p.m. Monday at the 137 Pine St. coffee shop.
“Educating our employees and community is important to our mission at Hope & Coffee,” Hampson said.
Attendees will learn about budgeting, credit management, building wealth and retirement during the financial wellness workshop. Michele Pompa, senior branch manager of the Tamaqua location, will lead the presentation.
They’ll also be able to order drinks or items from Hope & Coffee’s bakery case until 3 p.m.
“We are very grateful to our local M&T Bank for providing this service,” Hampson said.
Hope & Coffee frequently hosts programs, including live music performances every Saturday.
Today, Mark Charles Rooney and Marty Z will play from 10 a.m. to noon, and Dan Cannon takes the stage from 5-7 p.m.
An Easter Egg Hunt will begin at 10 a.m. today. The business will be closed Sunday in observance of Easter.
Hope & Coffee opened in 2018 as a recovery-friendly coffee shop that prioritizes hiring people, vendors and contractors in recovery.
