Local Roundup: Results from April 6
Pitching was the name of the game for area teams on Thursday.
The highlight of the day was a no-hitter thrown by Madisyn vonFrisch for the Weatherly softball team.
Also turning in stellar performances were baseball pitchers Nate Mostosky of Pleasant Valley and Jack James of Weatherly.
BASEBALL
Central Catholic-Pleasant Vy.
Nate Mostosky pitched a three-hit shutout to lead Pleasant Valley to a 4-0 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over Allentown Central Catholic.
Mostosky walked three and struck out three during his 85-pitch outing. He also helped his own cause by delivering an RBI double in the fourth inning.
Austin Ratti finished with two hits and an RBI for the Bears, while Maverick Walsh added a pair of hits. The winners also received a double and run scored from Nathan Loch, and a hit and RBI from Jack Smale.
PV is now 5-4 overall and 4-4 in the league. The Vikings dropped to 3-5.

Weatherly-Mahanoy Area
An outstanding pitching performance by Jack James helped Weatherly gain a 3-1 Schuylkill League victory over Mahanoy Area.
James struck out 11 batters and allowed just one run in six and two-thirds innings. He gave up five hits and walked four. James also came through at the plate, collecting an RBI single and knocking in another run with a ground out.
Ian McLaurin added a hit and two runs, while Ismael Zuberi drove home a run with a fielder’s choice.
Mahanoy received a pair of hits from Lucas Karnish.
The Wreckers are now 2-6 overall and 1-4 in the league, while the Bears dropped to 1-5.

Jim Thorpe-North Schuylkill
North Schuylkill posted a 6-1 Schuylkill League victory over Jim Thorpe.
Jeffrey Markosky went the distance for the Spartans, allowing just five hits and two walks while striking out six.
The winners received a pair of hits from both Kieran Keninitz and Peyton Groody. Both of Groody’s hits went for extra bases, one a double and the other a home run. In addition to his hits, Keninitz scored twice and knocked in three runs.
Garrett Lienhard had a hit and an RBI for the Olympians, who also received hits from Chip Baldassano, Jack Edwards, Tanner Yurchak and Evan Murphy.
The loss dropped Thorpe to 2-5 overall and 1-2 in the league. North Schuylkill is now 2-4 and 2-2.

Northern Lehigh-Catasauqua
Catasauqua pitching limited Northern Lehigh to just two hits in gaining a 4-2 Colonial League victory.
Starter and winner John Pushkar allowed just one hit in five-and-a-third innings while striking out nine. Reliever McKay Lewis earned the save, giving up the other hit over his one-and-two-thirds effort.
Hunter Reitz had two hits, a run and an RBI for the Rough Riders, while Pushkar helped his own cause with a hit and two RBIs.
For the Bulldogs, Connor Simms hit a solo homer. Nolehi hurler Tyler Fenstermaker went the distance, giving up three earned runs in six innings. He walked two and struck out two.
Catasauqua improved to 3-5 overall and 2-5 in the league, while the Bulldogs fell to 1-8 and 1-6.

SOFTBALL
Weatherly-Mahanoy Area
Madisyn vonFrisch fired a no-hitter and struck out 12 as Weatherly rolled to a 12-0 Schuylkill League victory over Mahanoy Area.
vonFrisch helped her cause with four hits and four RBIs. Juliette Bartel also had four hits and added two RBIs for the Wreckers, while Ranessa Paulino-Diaz had three RBIs, and Kelly Michaels and Rachel Rosenlund both had two hits.
With the win, Weatherly improves to 5-1, while Mahanoy Area remains winless at 0-5.

Hamburg-Northwestern
Northwestern remained undefeated with a 4-1 non-league victory over Hamburg.
The Tigers, who improved to 9-0, got strong pitching from both Peyton Neumoyer and Emma Freeman. Neumoyer started the game and allowed one run on four hits, while striking out three before being pulled in the fifth inning. Freeman then tossed two-and-two-thirds innings of hitless relief to earn the save.
Quinn Conrey had two hits and Neumoyer, Marissa Christman, and Josephine Wehr each knocked in a run for the Tigers.

North Schuylkill routed Jim Thorpe, 17-0, in a three-inning Schuylkill League contest.
The Spartans’ Johannan Taylor had two hits and three RBIs. Shiana Taylor and Emiee Slotcavage each added two hits for North Schuylkill (5-1).
Melina Schwartz had the only hit for the Olympians (1-5).

Jim Thorpe dropped a 5-0 non-league decision to Pen Argyl.
Mason Soos and Mason Beers both notched singles’ play victories for the Green Knights.
Jim Thorpe falls to 0-9 overall, while Pen Argyl improves to 2-4.

The Palmerton-Lehighton match was suspended by rain with the teams tied at 1-1.
No date for the resumption of the match has been announced yet.
The Indians’ victory came at No. 1 doubles from the team of Daniel Hoppes and Edie Cordes. The Bombers win came at No. 3 singles from Tyler Hager.
Three other matches had been started, but not completed when the rains began.
