Pool staff workers at Lehighton’s swimming pool are getting a pay increase.
Borough council on a unanimous measure Monday approved the raises.
The new rates will be as follows:
• Second-year lifeguards will go from $10.50 to $12 an hour.
• Lifeguards with four or more years, $13 an hour.
• Kitchen staff, first year, $12 an hour.
Council’s decision came after it heard briefly from pool director Tom Evans, who said the rise in wages is to keep up with other areas.
Councilman Ryan Saunders said the pool staff has done a tremendous job.
“We’ve had great success retaining good crossing guards,” Saunders said.
In January, borough employees received a 3% raise in their salaries after council approved a resolution that set employee salaries for this year.
Included in that were lifeguards, first year, $10.50 an hour; lifeguards, third year, $12 an hour; lifeguards, sixth year, $13 an hour; kitchen and office pool staff, first year, $10.50 an hour; kitchen and office pool staff, seventh year, $12 an hour; and recreation assistance program employees, $9 an hour.
